Spreading Holiday Cheer - VR Style

If you’re reading this, you have a vacation rental home you cherish and adore.

You may be close to retirement age, newly-retired (congrats), or long since retired, but we can assure you this article will give you some great ideas on how to prepare for the upcoming holiday season.

This guide is going to be talking about some of the best ways you can get your home holiday-ready for the flood of incoming travelers and some small ways you can add a little holiday cheer for your guests.

Deck The Halls

A very easy way to prepare for the holiday season is dressing up your home in all kinds of holiday trimmings.

There are all kinds of ways you can dress it up. You can go by theme dependent on where your house is located (Beachfront? Woods? Farm?), you can go for nonsectarian (general holiday theme), or you can go for a hodgepodge of all sorts of holiday traditions (using different kinds of decorations).

Our best suggestion is to just go with general holiday trimmings, but if you want to be ambitious, you can get creative!

Great Food for All

One of the more awesome elements of being a host of a home-rental service is the ability to share great meals with your guests.

If you’ve got awesome culinary skills, why don’t you show off your work and tantalize your guests’ pallet?

You can always opt in for a traditional holiday ham, a nice filet mignon, some nice homemade cookies, stuffed potatoes, or some extremely flaky buttermilk biscuits. The possibilities are endless!

You’ll love cooking and your guests will, too!

Holiday Gift Baskets

One of the best ways to spread holiday cheer is by making custom gift baskets! They will be sure to delight your guests as a small token of your appreciation for them staying in your vacation rental! Here are some steps on how to make some.

1. Tally Up The Number of Guests

During the holiday season, you are likely to encounter guests who are traveling in pairs or groups. Of course, you’ll run across the lone traveler, but they are an exception to the rule. Within those of groups, you’ll also come across these types:

  • Romantic Couples
  • Friendship Getaways (young adult, older adults)
  • Exploratory Groups (consistent travelers, nomads, etc).

There is some overlap among these two, but this will help you get a bead on who to create your gift baskets for.

2. Male or Female?

Knowing what gender you’re buying for will come a long way in helping you to make your gift baskets. You could always go the safe route and get gender neutral items, but it will definitely help to know what little extra pizazz you can add to the gift baskets.

Another question to ask is “how many of each gender?” If you’re prepping for a group of 3 girls and 2 guys, then you can just go ahead and get 3 of each item for the girls and 2 of each for the guys. This will help make your shopping much, much easier.

3. What to Buy

When it comes to gifts, there’s always the hard question of “what to buy” even for people we know well.

Buying items that you know everyone will love will make it much easier.

Here’s a short list:

  • Gift cards, like Bed, Bath, and Beyond or Best Buy
  • Bath utilities, like soaps, shampoos, or loofahs
  • Candy, such as holiday chocolates, peppermint bark, or gummies

The list goes on and on. You can use your imagination to make it even more expansive!

If you’re really in a rush to prepare for your guests, you can order gift baskets online.

4. Show Off the Best In Town

Don’t forget to use your gift baskets as a way to show off the best your city or area has to offer! You can insert pamphlets into each of the gift baskets showing main attractions that are especially highlighted during holiday time.

You can either make these yourself or even print them out from sites that specialize in tourism for your area. Your guests are sure to appreciate this added touch to the gift baskets.

We hope this guide gave you some quick ideas on how to prepare for holiday travelers. You don’t have to follow everything on this list and it definitely isn’t an end-all, be-all either.

Either way, you decide!

Happy holidays from all of us at NoiseAware!
